Description
An antique stirrup cup with fox head (please see photos). The piece is marked J. E. CALDWELL & CO. STERLING CUP (please see photo). The inside of the cup has a gold flashing (please see photo). It is approximately 4 3/4 inches at it's highest point by 3 1/16 inches at it's widest point. It has a total weight of approximately 315 grams. J.E. Caldwell & Co. was a major jewellery retailer and one-time silversmith in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The company was founded at 163 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, by watchmaker James Emmot Caldwell in 1839. In 1843 the firm became the partnership of Bennett & Caldwell, then in 1848 was renamed J.E. Caldwell & Co. The piece has two very, very, very small minor flea bites near the bottom of the fox's head but overall is in really very good condition. Please see all photos as they are a major part of this item's conditional description.
